This weekend, teams showed their respects following the news that Harpenden Colts chairman and grassroots enthusiast Robert Trevor had sadly passed away following a short illness.
The league committee and all their member clubs thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.
His club, shared this statement on their social media:
"It is with a heavy heart that Harpenden Colts Old Boys remember Bob Trevor.
Following his tragic passing last week, Bob has received countless tributes from the Harpenden Colts community, and naturally it’s only fitting that we pay our deepest respects to a man, without whom, there would be no Old Boys.
Bob Trevor was the glue that held COB together. Bob was one of those remarkable people who seemed to hold so many roles at once. Manager, mentor, secretary, referee (though some of our lads may have questioned his proficiency in that one), & friend.
Harpenden Colts Old Boys was originally formed by Steve Oakley & Bob in 2008, after several of his old youth team returned from university looking to establish a team. The foundations laid down by Steve were built upon by Bob and we too had the chance to play for Colts again. In 2019, Bob worked hard with COB’s Will to form a reserve team, and COBR was born. Two cups were secured in our inaugural year, with another to follow in the second. Two covid hit seasons, three trophies and about a thousand Sunday morning hangovers later, the team is still going strong. For this, we can only thank Bob Trevor.
This having been said, it perhaps wasn’t always plain sailing. Bob was always keen to share his ideas, but had a frequent knack of spreading that wisdom when it was time for a post-match pint. Never were we such polite listeners as when the Engineer was calling our names…
In COB, we have found ourselves being part of something bigger than we expected. This was not just about the 90 minutes on a Sunday but the whole community that Bob had fostered: a feeling of belonging which you don’t often find in life. Testament to this are our some of our squad members who, what they might lack in footballing ability have made up for in commitment and camaraderie - the true essence of Sunday league and something we are sure Bob is proud of.
Never could we have wished for a more passionate and dedicated person to run our team. Bob Trevor devoted his time to Harpenden Colts because of his love for the game, and for that, we will forever love him back.
And so to Bob, we send thanks and love, and bid farewell. Rest in peace."
HERTS FA INTERMEDIATE COUNTY CUP
The Herts Ad League showed their strength in the competition, by guaranteeing at least one finalist and 3 out of the four semi-finalists – and it was very nearly a clean sweep, but FYP fell short in a brilliant game against Woodside FC from Watford, losing 2-1.
Brookman's Park progressed into the Semi Final of the Herts Intermediate Cup with a 4-2 win over AFC Turnford. In a tight game, Park mainly had the edge over their opposition, who came into the game with a potential strong front line, but Parks defenders were mainly in control of that threat. Charlie Nelson opened the scoring from a free kick and after Turnford had equalised Park went ahead again from an excellent placed header from Dave Breeze. Park were quickly pegged back again going into half time, but after the break were in control once Tom Milton had scored and then Adam Page wrapped things up for Park. They now face a semi-final tie against local rivals The Bull.
The Bull came flying out the blocks against a very good Bengeo Borough side, and took the lead inside a minute when Jack Woods was quickest to react to an effort which had come back off the post. A few minutes later and it was 2-0, when Harry McNamara hit a wonder strike from 25-yards into the top corner after Woods’ free kick came back off the wall. Bengeo managed to find their rhythm just before the break, but The Bull defended superbly from back to front. But, midway through the second half the tie was over, after good work down the left from Kai Neill resulted in his cross being headed home by Woods. Shortly after man of the match Woods completed his hat-trick after McNamara’s brilliant through ball. Bengeo managed a consolation in the dying moments, but The Bull can look forward to the semis now after this 4-1 win.
ROUND 3
Oceans XI pulled off a fantastic win against Watford League high-flyers Watford Sports. Going into the tie as underdogs didn’t stop Oceans battling on to take the tie 2-1. Goals from Montel Robinson and George Fennell sets up a quarter final against Little Heath.
HERTS FA SENIOR COUNTY CUP
Five-time County cup winners Skew Bridge went out against East Herts side Broxelona 3-2.
Borehamwood Rovers will face Skew's conquerors in the quarter finals as they eliminated Real Hadham, despite a below par performance from Rovers standards. Goals from Taylor Blake and Dwane Duncan ensuring a 2-0 win.
HERTS FA JUNIOR COUNTY CUP
Phoenix Reserves are in the hat for the next round after a penalty shootout win against Cheshunt Rovers. Liam Addlesee scoring their solo effort in the 90-minutes.
BWSC are out following a 5-2 defeat against Fairfield Park. Alex Garvey adding two more to his seasons tally.
Goals from Josh Panther and Billy Small gave Plough & Harrow all 3 points in a close fought game against Phoenix. Daniel Kitchener with Phoenix’s effort as the game ended 2-1.
Division One
A 95th minute winner from Oliver Purton gave Little Heath all 3 points against Wheathampstead Wanderers. Robert Pinto had given Heath the lead on the stroke of half time, but Kwame Ofori equalised for Wheato with only minutes remaining, before Heath snatched the points at the death.
Mermaid's good form continued as they completed the double over Welwyn Garden United, winning 3-1. Chris Wilding, Stephen Maitland and Carl Fadhel on target for Mermaid, with Sean Mboto hitting Welwyn’s only goal.
Division Two
Harpenden Colts OB Reserves and Six Bells Reserves played out a 1-1 draw. Stephen Harris on target for Colts as Jack Lodge scored for Bells.
Division Three
Herts Vets picked up a solid 3-1 away win at St. Georges. Tom McGuinness, Lewis Bulled and Robert Gradwell on target.
Strafford Arms Reserves remained top with a thumping 8-1 win against Wrestlers. David Fennell (2), Matt Bellamy, Daniel Charles, Dean Kemp, Zack Neiman, Bradley Swaile, Luke Watling all amongst the goals.
A Jonathan Tanton hattrick saw TNF climb the table to second place behind Strafford with a 4-1 win against Welwyn Warriors Reserves. Tom Anderson was TNFs other scorer. Alex Dibden on target for Warriors.
Division Four
Brookmans Park Reserves remain top of Division 4 with another comfortable 6-2 win over Royston Rangers. Leading scorer Sam Kinsley was in brilliant form and netted another hattrick, he was assisted with the goals from Jiri Shrdlik 2 and Amal Lewis.
Welwyn Rangers and Hadham Rovers met for the second week on the trot, with Rangers picking up the 3-points again, but this time in much more convincing fashion, 8-0. Hayden Evanson added 5 more to his seasons tally, with Billy Dean, Luke Stuckley and Alex Banbury all getting themselves on the scoresheet.
Division Five
Goals from Michael Sinnott and Haydn Connell were enough to give St. Albans Warriors all 3-points against Phoenix A.
Ashleigh Robinson was on target twice again, but still couldn’t stop high flying Moretown’s title push as they kept the pressure on the league leaders with a 4-2 win. Sam Collard and James Davenport with one each and Kyle Hellina scoring a brace to complete to victory.
Herts Advertiser Intermediate Cup
Cub FC progressed to the next round of the Intermediate Cup with a 4-2 win against Hatfield Seniors Reserves.
A Troy Archer hat-trick put Excel on their way to a comfortable 4-0 win against Alban Dynamo Reserves. Kieran Brasier with the other.
Goals from Curtis Warner and Jimmy Talbot cancelled out Craig Clarkes effort as Hatfield Seniors beat Mermaid Reserves 2-1.
Herts Ad Challenge Cup
Two goals from James Lauder gave Playerpacks a 2-0 win against Harpenden Colts OB.
Jim Lynch Trophy
Goals from Charlie Gilroy and Jacob Jones enabled bottom of division 2 Wheathampstead 89 to knock out unbeaten league leaders Pinewood 2-1. Paul Reilly in reply for Pinewood.
Paxton Rovers moved into the next round with a 2-0 away win against Six Bells.
